The necklace is accented by triangular and silver boxes and cylindrical talismans or kutub boxes with hanging short chains and hallow spheres at the end. In the 19th century, until their final exodus to Israel in the 1950s, Jewish goldsmiths made most of the silver jewellery in Yemen. They were particularly renowned for the quality of silver filigree work, which were appreciated by Muslim and Jewish women. This necklace is called a Lazem.
